Children of God is the fifth studio album by American experimental rock band Swans. It was released on October 19, 1987, through record label Caroline. Children of God was re-issued along with the World of Skin compilation minus the covers on CD in 1997 as Children of GodWorld of Skin. On this re-release, the original album version of Our Love Lies was replaced with the version included on the Love Will Tear Us Apart EP. Also, the re-release added Damn You to Hell and I'll Swallow You. Jory Canfield Children of God is my favorite album of all time. It's just perfect in almost every way from the execution of the concept to the pure power and energy brought forth in the music. Pat Robertson's bid for the presidency, the oxymoronic Moral Majority, Bakker's fall from grace: These events were met in a head-on collision with Swans' perfect blend of sound and themes, their musical brawn contrasting with Jarboe's soft passionate blasphemy. This re-release, fully remastered by Gira, was especially crucial for Swans' fan base, since Children had long fallen out of print worldwide, with often-times absurd prices being asked for by sellers lucky enough to have a few remaining. The package collects that album along with the contents of the American-only compilation of the first two Skin albums by Gira and Jarboe. This means that two tracks from the first Skin album, Come Out and The Man I Love, still have not been re-released. Children of God. 4: of GodWorld of Skin was the first Swans album I ever bought. I didn't know much about the band, but I was an avid music collector and I had heard some good things about them. Children of GodWorld of Skin being a re-release of Children of God from 1987 and what they tagged on is a sideproject that included Michael Gira and Jarboe whom also happen to be the core members of the group Swans. The sound is very avant garde and I come to think of Skinny Puppy, The Klinik and Clock Dva in their approach to music.
