On the Boards is the second album by Irish rock band Taste, released in 1970. It is their final studio album and the release that brought Rory Gallagher to prominence, reaching number 18 on the UK album chart. Reviewers have praised its variety and the precision of its ensemble playing, and noted the jazz inflections of Gallagher's guitar and his unaffected vocals. The title track 'On The Boards' is very similar in feel to Fotheringaye's 'Gypsy Davey' which is a brilliant folkrock song that was also recorded in 1970 whilst 'See Hear' sounds very similar to the type of intimate and melancholic song that Nick Drake would record a few years later on his 'Pink Moon' album. There's a pronounced jazzy tinge to his spiky guitar and never-again-heard alto sax on the slow blues of the title track and It's Happened Before, It'll Happen Again, the latter giving the Richard McCracken-John Wilson rhythm section a chance to stretch out and swing fluidly.
