The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette is a 1969 psychedelic pop album by American band the Four Seasons. With musical influences changing in the late 1960s, the Four Seasons teamed up with Jake Holmes to create a concept album that placed their traditional pop stylings into the psychedelic era. Instead of love songs, the group tackled subjects such as war and racial tension. A superb psycedelic concept album from the Jersey boys simply known as the Four Frankie Valli : It is considered the 'most bizarre'. Genuine Imitation Life Gazette never feels like a cheap cash-in because the group chases its cosmic muse without any worry of pandering to commercial concerns. In fact, fans of concise Four Seasons pop classics like Dawn and Big Girls Don't Cry will be shocked by songs like American Crucifixion Resurrection and Soul of a Woman, both multi-minute epics that abandon tight pop song structure in favor of symphonic structures spiked with all manner of psychedelic sonic trickery and elliptical, satirical lyrics reminiscent of Van Dyke Parks'. This album however is not as we know the Four Seasons from their radio hits. A nice bridge between easy vocal pop and complex harmony-singing- Pet sounds-concept-psychedelica-and-political satire.
