According to The Telegraph, Ringo hand-delivered a letter from Lennon and George Harrison to McCartney at his St Johns Wood home. The contents said that releasing the two albums so close together was stupid and so The Beatles had told the record company to postpone McCartneys solo album until June 4. The Beatles Child 1. George Harrison joined the Quarry Men, the John Lennon -led group that Paul McCartney had joined as a second guitarist and singer the previous summer. Harrison, who was a few weeks shy of his 15th birthday, had known McCartney for about a year. The two were students at the Liverpool Institute and frequently took the same bus to and from school. Before theyd put a dent in the album, George Harrison walked out with plans to quit the group for good. Georges problems with Paul McCartney ended up on film for all to see in the Let It Be documentary. But that was only part of the story. George and John Lennon reportedly got into a fistfight during these sessions as well. And Ringo remained weary following his own walkout the previous summer. With John and Yoko set to be married in March 69, The Beatles didnt seem built to last. The year before, Nilsson recorded The Beatles You Cant Do That, cleverly using quotes from 14 other Beatles songs. That had led to an invitation to a party at George Harrisons rented house in the Hollywood Hills. A unique relationship would form between Nilsson and The Beatles. He would write a song for McCartney, make films and party through the 1970s with Ringo Starr, and record and raise hell with Lennon in the notorious 18-month lost weekend period in 1973 and 1974, when John left Yoko Ono for a wild life in Los Angeles. There was, it should be said, much more to Nilsson than his Beatles associations
