The Infamous stylized as The Infamous. is the second studio album by the American hip hop duo Mobb Deep. It was released on April 25, 1995, by Loud Records. The album features guest appearances by Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Q-Tip, who also contributed to its production and mixing. Most of the leftover songs from the album became bonus tracks for Mobb Deep's The Infamous Mobb Deep album 2014. One of the cornerstones of the New York hardcore movement, The Infamous is Mobb Deep's masterpiece, a relentlessly bleak song cycle that's been hailed by hardcore rap fans as one of the most realistic gangsta albums ever recorded. Given Mobb Deep's youthful age and art-school background, it's highly unlikely that The Infamous is drawn strictly from real-life experience, yet it's utterly convincing, because it has all the foreboding atmosphere and thematic sweep of an epic crime drama. I distinctly remember picking up this album on one of my visits to the library. I had heard of Mobb Deep on several occasions 2Pac dissing them on Hit Em Up , their feature on Nas album It Was Written , but I hadnt heard a full album before. Who knew that once I pressed play, this album was gonna be one of those few albums that define the sound of real Hip-Hop to me So on the 24th birthday of this classic album, I decided to release my tribute to it.
