Album
Arthur Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire, often referred to as just Arthur, is the seventh studio album by English rock band the Kinks, released in October 1969. Kinks frontman Ray Davies constructed the concept album as the soundtrack to a Granada Television play and developed the storyline with novelist Julian Mitchell the television programme was never produced. The rough plot revolved around Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray and guitarist Dave Davies' brother-in. Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire - The Kinks. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. The music makes the words cut deeper, and the songs never stray too far from the album's subject, making Arthur one of the most effective concept albums in rock history, as well as one of the best and most influential British pop records of its era. The first two CDs offer the album in newly remastered mono and stereo versions both with seven bonus tracks while the third disc features music from a lost Dave Davies solo album. CD 4 offers a collection of demos, rehearsals, theatrical versions and remixes. In total there are 81 tracks five previously unreleased and 28 previously unreleased versions. The Kinks - Young And Innocent Days. The Kinks - Arthur. Arthur is a concept album released by the Kinks in 1969. Throughout the album, we learn about protagonist Arthur Morgan and his family, such as his wife and his son, Derek, who moves to Australia with his wife and family. His other son, Eddie, and Arthurs brother of the same name who both died in separate wars are also mentioned. Other than the protagonist and his family, the album also touches on various conflicts and events in England and war. The story is loosely based off of various events in England and Ray Davies' own experiences in life. It is not widely known as one, as it is not usually mentioned in the presence of other concept albums of it's time. The first part of the album is used to describe the England that Arthur once knew. The album is ushered in with the upbeat Victoria. And soon moves onto other songs like Some Mother's Son a slower song that is about War, and really makes the listener think about the cost of War, and the toll it leaves on family life. One of the things that The Kinks are famous for, is their use of the power chord. They were one of the pioneering. In this video I review The Kinks album from 1969, Arthur. I show the vinyl and go over each is the Kinks 7th album, and one of the best examples of Ray Davies genius story-telling technique. Its also a concept album, based on the theme of emigrating from the UK. Each song tells a story, and the character of Arthur is based on Davies brother in law. The details of the story are explained in the accompanying booklet, but like the great concept album that it is, you dont really need the background info to appreciate the songs. Ray Davies tackles several themes relating to Britishness and class, with bitter attacks on the privileged. Check out Yes Sir, No Sir: Permission to
