The Miserable Rich self-recorded and produced their second album, Of Flight & Fury, which was mixed by Al Scott The Levellers, Eliza Carthy, Asian Dub Foundation, and released in June 2010. The third Miserable Rich album, Miss You in the Days, released in November 2011, is lyrically based on ghost stories. In late 2012 The Miserable Rich announced their final concerts in London and Brighton, pending a creative break during which time members of the band will concentrate on other projects. Manor Farm Of Flight & Fury is a boundlessly lovely listening experience, all beautifully recorded and arranged with bold orchestration. There's an inherent theatricality to music on this scale, but the band balance out their underlying pomp with absorbing, occasionally darkened tales of seduction and inebriation. Instead, a variety of influences come together to form a swirling, warm, inviting sound that's rich with feeling. The strings have an indie element from Mike along with a classical influence from Will, while Jim brings classic rock from his Clearlake days. Meanwhile Rhys's jazz props up the bottom end and James' vocals have the rawness of his soul upbringing. The Miserable Rich are a 5 piece AltFolk band from Brighton and Of Flight and Fury is their second studio album. This is a truly refreshing piece of work, with its craftmenship straight out of the top draw. Gorgious heartfelt lyrics, but with lead singer James de Malplaquet sweet clear vocals you're never plunged totally into the obvious despair he is feeling at times.
