Roadrunner Modern Lovers were an American rock band led by Jonathan Richman in the 1970s and 1980s. The original band, billed simply as The Modern Lovers, existed from 197074 but their recordings were not released until 1976 or later. It featured Jonathan Richman and bassist Ernie Brooks with drummer David Robinson later of The Cars and keyboardist Jerry Harrison later of Talking Heads. The Modern Lovers, like all of those other acts, were a rock band first and foremost. They played rock'n'roll. How others defined them was out of their hands. This is not the first album by THE MODERN LOVERS instead its a mix of tracks from the first album, along with some lost tapes, demos and whatnot. This is the stuff that WBCN was probably playing back in the day. I wouldn't REALLY know because I wasn't born yet, but Boston seems to have been a pretty cool place to live in the earlymid seventies
