Album
Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second studio album by the London-based folk punk band The Pogues, released on 5 August 1985. The album reached number 13 in the UK charts. The track A Pair of Brown Eyes, based on an older Irish tune, reached number 72 in the UK singles chart. The Old Main Drag later appeared on the soundtrack to the film My Own Private Idaho. Rum Sodomy & The Lash - The Pogues. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Rum Sodomy & the Lash also found Shane MacGowan growing steadily as a songwriter while the debut had its moments, the blazing and bitter roar of the opening track, The Sick Bed of Cúchulainn, made it clear MacGowan had fused the intelligent anger of punk and the sly storytelling of Irish folk as no one had before, and the rent boys' serenade of The. Old Main Drag and the dazzling, drunken character sketch of A Pair of Brown Eyes proved there were plenty of directions where he could take his gifts. Rum Sodomy & the Lash falls just a bit short of being the Pogues' best album, but was the first one to prove that they were a great band, and not just a great idea for a band. Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second album by the Anglo-Irish musical group The Pogues, released in 1985. The title is taken from a quote often attributed to Winston Churchill Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash. Singer and primary songwriter Shane MacGowan claimed that the title was suggested by drummer Andrew Ranken. Billys bones off rum sodomy and the lash personally my fav pogues you all enjoy this fine tune. Rum, Sodomy and The Lash is widely regarded as being the bands best work, with If I Should Fall From Grace With God being the only other album by the band that even comes close. The first crucial thing to note about the album is the quality of MacGowans songwriting on it. Although 6 out of the 12 songs are either written by contemporary artists or taken from traditional Irish music, songs such as the frenzied The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn feature the band at their very best, bringing the smoke-filled atmosphere of the Irish pubs of the past straight out of your speakers.
