Album
Tim is the fourth studio album by American alternative rock band The Replacements. It was released in October 1985 on Sire Records. It was their first major label release and also the last album made by the original line-up of the band: guitarist Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band towards the end of 1986. Like its predecessors, Tim achieved moderate mainstream commercial success despite critical acclaim. The album peaked at number 183 on the Billboard Music Chart's Top 200. It was placed 136th on. Tim was The Replacements fourth studio album, their first with a major label, and was released in October 1985 on Sire Records. The album sees the Mats continue the themes lead singer Paul Westerberg implemented on their previous album Let It Be, which he wanted to be a little more sincere. Some of these more sincere tracks include the deeply insightful Swingin Party, which was covered on Lordes Pure Heroine in 2013 to the surprise of many. Their first major label release, Tim is also sadly the last album to feature the full original lineup of the band. The Replacements fourth album fuses the guitar power of Duane Eddy and 70s punk with Big Star-style pop balladry and the lyrical empathy and humor of a gifted author. Barstool melancholy and regret permeate spine-tingling heartbreakers Here Comes a Regular and Swinging Party, while trashy guitars and self-contempt make Bastards of Young the anthem of a generation. Winking put-down Waitress in the Sky and proletariat love odes Kiss Me on the Bus and Little Mascara come out swaggering. As for bandleader Paul Westerbergs world-weary vocals, they bring an aching truth to it all. 18, 1985, Tim was the best possible outcome - proof the Replacements could go respectable without losing their edge. Its about as strong a major label debut as any underground punk band has ever made, and while many Mats heads will go to the mat for 1984s Let It Be - the foursomes third LP and last one for the Minneapolis indie TwinTone - Tim is arguably the bands finest moment. Then again, the Replacements' story has become a tragicomic legend largely because the band had shotguns pointed at its own Converse-clad feet
