Canadas Sadies play American with a soft-spoken determination that gives their tunes an understated elegance and a solid, no-nonsense approach thats never compromised by freaky effects or sudden, inappropriate juxtapositions of sound. The groups seventh studio album, 2007s New Seasons, recalls major country-rock artists from the Byrds to the Long Ryders without sounding like them, but rather continuing in their grand tradition. Released 2007. The first studio release by the Sadies in three years represents a big sonic advance. Read full review. Their studio albums have been moving away from virtuoso instrumentals toward vocal songs, of which this album has some excellent examples. Canada's greatest contribution to Americana since Blue Rodeo have been consistently topping themselves with each new album, and their sixth, New Seasons, is another triumph. New Seasons 2007 is a great album, and since discovering it and Favourite Colours 2004 I've been listening to both non-stop. With New Seasons the Sadies move toward a psychedelic sound, and de-emphasize the country rock twang of Favourite Colours a bit, and the songs on New Seasons are even better The lyrics are included, but in small print and all run together in one long text with no separation or headings so you can see which song corresponds to which words
