Stereogum has a scoop on a collection of Smiths bootlegs that turned up called Unreleased Demos & Instrumentals. These are the kind of tracks that can help a guy get over the often difficult, girly, Morrissey, hurdle and get into The Smiths in a heavy way. They remind me of The Peel Sessions tracks the band did in May of 1983 with producer Roger Pusey clearly one of the toughest names in the music biz and of course, John Peel. 16 track collection of unreleased demos spanning the band's entire career, including two raw instrumentals from Johnny Marr. Some tracks have different lyrics, others are totally different with alternative arrangements and instrumentation. The Smiths Many Faces Of. The Smiths is the self titled debut studio album by English rock band the Smiths, released on 20 February 1984 by Rough Trade Records. After the original production by Troy Tate was felt to be inadequate, John Porter re-recorded the album in London, Manchester and Stockport during breaks in the band's UK tour during September 1983. The album was well received by critics and listeners, and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the chart for 33 weeks. It established the Smiths as a
