The song is noted for lead singer Russell Thompkins Jr. s distinctive falsetto singing, which he employs through most of the record. The song was written by Thom Bell, Linda Creed, and Anthony Bell. The Best Of The Stylistics. Formed in 1968, they comprised lead Russell Thompkins, Jr. Herbie Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn. They had their first U. hit in 1971 with You're a Big Girl Now. Signing to Avco Records, The Stylistics began working with producer Thom Bell, who had already produced a catalogue of hits for The Delfonics, and songwriter Linda Creed. The Stylistics were formed in Philadelphia in 1968 by the members of two groups, The Percussions and The Monarchs. After local success with Sebring Records, they were signed by Avco, teamed initially with Thom Bell and later Van McCoy. In 1975, Johnny Mathis recorded this for his album I'm Coming Home, which was produced by Thom Bell. His version hit 10 in the UK. This is one of many tracks recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia that helped define the Philly Sound.
