The Sun and the Moon is the debut studio album by English post-punk band the Sun and the Moon, featuring Mark Burgess and John Lever both previously of the Chameleons, released in 1988 by record label Geffen. This album equals the best work by The Chameleons as far as I'm concerned - that is, the impeccable Strange Times - with it's shimmering guitars, and frontman Mark Burgess' strong voice and urgent lyrics. John Lever's drumming - always a central piece of The Chameleons sound - is brilliant as always, and cements his place as one of the greatest sticksmen of all time. A fine example of this are The Sun & The Moon. In fact this band already rose out of the ashes fromthe most underrated band ever: The Chameleons. When asking once Mark Burgess if he doesnt regret that his band could have been as big as U2, simply because they invented that sound, the man just shrugged his shoulders. Some say they were the first Britpopband, I say its simply the 4th album by The Chameleons that was never supposed to come out. Seeing so many bands in my life, I dont think that an artist carved such a deep scar in my soul as Burgess did.
