There is more than one group called the Tubes: 1 The Tubes are a San Francisco-based theater rock band, popular in the mid 1970s and early 1980s, known for their live performances that combined music performances with many different unique costumes and in some acts they wore leotards with painted on nipples and pubic hair. They made satires of life in the USA the media, consumerism, and politics. It is Steely Dan's first live album. The album comprises recordings from their 1993 and 1994 tours, which were the first live Steely Dan performances since 1974. Writing for The Village Voice in 1995, Carola Dibbell found the album naturally excellent but, having witnessed most of the featured performances in person, said it sounded better truly live while preferring the band's complete studio-album.
