Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 is an American experimental indie rock group, which was formed in 1986 in San Francisco, California, United States, though half of its members are from Iowa. Their albums combine lo-fi noise rock and ambient sounds referred to as Feller filler with tightly constructed rock and pop songs. The band has a small but intensely loyal cult following. At around 30 minutes in length, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282's 1993 recording The Funeral Pudding is really more of an EP, perhaps a stopgap between their masterful collection of esoterica, Mother of All Saints, and the quirk-pop perfection of Strangers from the Universe. If I were to make a compilation album of Thinking Fellers music, a number of songs on Funeral Pudding would serve as quite suitable epitaphs for a fabulous band that is no longer with us, but sorely missed. There's some Feller filler that's kinda noisy and meandering, but other songs that are tight and compelling, such as the first two tracks. Overall a great band with a lot of talent and a very unique way of making sounds.
