Album
A Far Cry from Dead. This album contains private recordings that Townes made at a friend's studio at various times several years before he died and kept for posterity, likely for his wife and children's financial benefit after he was gone. Which is exactly what happened, his widow has taken those stripped back solo recordings and got a band to play on them to fill out the sound - there's some very lovely guitar on here. Viewed this with some trepidation but conclude 'A Far Cry From Dead' to be essential for both newbies and seasoned TVZ fans. Dedicated to the spirit that was, and is, townes van zandt.
