Recorded at Universal Recording in January and May, 1987. 1989 CBS Records Inc. Great late nite listening. An amalgamation of jazz and laid back pop instrumentals which are stripped down to the bone but played with meaty soulfulness. The recording is warm and personifies what jazz music should be a very personal statement by two great musicians getting together to make art without the need for clinical evaluation by their piers. Rodby is the Pat Metheny Group bassist since about 1981 and Ross Traut a heavy session musician. Steve Rodby born December 9, 1954 in Joliet, Illinois is an American jazz bassist and producer known for his time with the Pat Metheny Group. Rodby was born in Joliet, Illinois, into a musical family. His father was a music teacher who bought him an acoustic bass, electric bass, and amp when he was 12. He heard classical music from a young age and was educated in classical until high school when he learned jazz. During high school summers, he went to jazz camps, where he met Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays. This album is refreshing, soothing, mellow and if you are a lover of music especially electric guitar and acoustic upright bass with no bells and whistles this is the album for you. I was totally blown away that a Fender Stratocaster could be used in a setting or set a mood like this project Russ and Steve did. Guitarist Traut and bassist Rodby now bassist in the Pat Metheny Group lay down some wonderful interpretations of popular and jazz tunes, including Up on the Roof, Round Midnight, and the great Delfonics cut, La La Means I love You.
