Notes
For U2, the period from May 1984 to May 1985 was an extraordinary one.
In that time they recorded and released The Unforgettable Fire and undertook a world tour that took them onto a new plane as perhaps the world's top act. In Bono's own phrase, having climbed to the top of one mountain, they went to find another. Here in songs and images is the story of that singular ascent.
In this unique compilation you'll see and hear what it is that has made The Unforgettable Fire unforgettable, from the extraordinary visual images of Pride (In the Name of Love) and the Unforgettable Fire single to the documentary style of A Sort of homecoming and Bad - here released in video form for the first time. Here too, you'll see the special half-hour documentary of the actual making of the album, shot on location at Slane Castle and Windmill Lane Studios. The Unforgettable Fire, tour and album is a memorable chapter in the U2 story. The images on this video package chronicle it faithfully.

Album
The Unforgettable Fire is the fourth studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, and released on 1 October 1984 by Island Records. The band wanted to pursue a new musical direction following the harder-hitting rock of their previous album, War 1983. As a result, they employed Eno and Lanois to produce and assist in their experimentation with a more ambient sound. The resulting change in direction was at the time the band's most dramatic. There were several significant re-issues including one in October 1996 as part of the Island Master series and one as part of the MFSL Ultradisc series in both the 12 vinyl and 5 CD formats with a slightly longer version of 4th Of July. Meanwhile, in Switzerland, The Unforgettable Fire reached on the album charts and stayed in the charts a total of 3 weeks. It was also selected as Best Album at Ireland's Music Industry Awards and in the Hot Press Reader's Poll, it was voted the No. 1 album by readers. The DVD features The Unforgettable Fire Collection, previously unreleased live performances from A Conspiracy Of Hope concert, Live Aid performances, rare videos, and a documentary on the making of The Unforgettable Fire. Although I liked October from Day 1, The Unforgettable Fire was the album that set U2 back on track to mega-stardom. The album is a celebration of everything that was good about the mid'80's and is highly likely to be an important part of a large number of peoples lives. Documentary about the recording of U2's Unforgettable Fire album. A true, simple effort. This is a good documentary of recording U2's first significant album. So The Unforgettable Fire isn't U2's biggest commercial success that would be The Joshua Tree or its most rewarding artistic coup Achtung Baby, but without it those records would not exist. It's a transitional album of the highest magnitude. The hits- Pride, Bad- still hit, and even its sometimes-derided abstractions like Promenade and Elvis Presley and America contain enough mystery to keep unraveling 25 years later.
