Album
Teatime Dub Encounters is a collaborative EP by British electronic music group Underworld and American singer-songwriter Iggy Pop. It was released on July 27, 2018, by Caroline International, except in Japan where it was released by Beat Records. Teatime Dub Encounters began as an attempt by the two opposite ends of the original soundtrack to Danny Boyles 1996 film Trainspotting Iggy Pop, with Lust for Life, and Underworld, with Born Slippy Nuxx to cook up something for the sequel, 2017s T2. As Iggy told Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh over cream tea and scones in a recent interview for Q, Underworld essentially ambushed Iggy while he was staying at the Savoy last year. He was on tour with his last album, Post Pop Depression at the time, suspected to be Iggys final word set to music. Im tired of people looking at me all. Iggy Pop and Underworld were unwittingly and unforgettably linked in 1996, when Lust for Life and Born Slippy NUXX, songs they'd released 18 years apart, were used as the opening and closing tracks in Danny Boyle's film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting. Twenty years later, the musicians converged again. Music Videos. Get Your Shirt. Underworld & Iggy Pop. Bells & Circles. More by Underworld & Iggy Pop. Listen free to Underworld Teatime Dub Encounters. While overseeing the soundtrack for T2 Trainspotting, Underworlds Rick Smith arranged a meeting with Iggy Pop in a room at The Savoy Hotel on Londons Strand to discuss working on collaborative music for the film. Their respective tracks Lust for Life and Born Slippy Nuxx had perfectly bookended the first Trainspotting film two decades previously. On arrival, Iggy found a fully working studio set up and eagerness to get cracking. Says Rick Smith Iggy was staying at The Savoy and graciously said yeah you know we we can meet and talk about. Teatime Dub Encounters is the result of a few clandestine hotel room recording sessions, that began a few weeks after Underworld and Iggy Pop had each released their last albums Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future and Post Pop Depression respectively on the same day 18 March 2016. It is neither historical or a tribute to past work, it is the work of artists in motion, engaged in a process that they both bring to all of their work one that uses spontaneity as a spur for creativity. Something about the tossed-off quality of Teatime Dub Encounters feels like a missed opportunity. Read full review. To me itLoved every track on the album. Sure will listen to it again. Many times. Music sounds like a soundtrack from T3: Trainspotting. To me it was kind of surprising to hear Iggy Pop in techno project. But hes known for experiments with various genres. Throughout his career he made punk-rock, glam with Bowie, folk with Bregovic, jazz. Iggy Pop - Bells & Circles. Iggy Pop - Trapped. Iggy Pop - I'll See Big. Iggy Pop - Get Your Shirt. Having both been so integral to the soundtrack and spirit of the original Trainspotting movie, Teatime Dub Encounters was borne of an attempted collaboration between Underworld and Iggy Pop to create something special for the sequel T2. For their first meeting, a studio was set up in a hotel room at The Savoy in London and a natural chemistry drove everything from there. It may not have made it for T2, but a beautiful beast of its own came into being
