Recorded live with no overdubs in The Japan Cente Theatre in San Francisco, CA. All miking was done with stereo pairs. ...no equalization, editing, reverberation, overdubbing, or other signal processing was used except on "Psychopomp," where stereo digital reverberation was employed.
Recorded October 24, 1982 and March 21, 1983.
"Psychopomp" was performed and recorded at Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, CA. September 25, 1984.

The early 1990s found Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart producing Rykodisc's world music series The World. One of the compilations that came out of that series was Around the World for a Song, which includes African, Middle Eastern and East European sounds, as well as some offerings by Hart himself.
