Arthur Conley never again came close to Sweet Soul Music, but it's as potent a tribute to Southern soul as you could want. Aretha Franklin has almost a third of the tunes here, but who's complaining Two tunes by the underrated Clarence Carter are a treat, as is the album-closing Rainy Night in Georgia by the dignified yet soulful Brook Benton. This is a great overview of soul music through the 1960's, capped off by Brook Benton's lush single Rainy Night In Georgia, making this disc worth the price of admission based on that one track alone. The disc is not shy about bringing in an unbalanced amount of Aretha Franklin but what's not to like.
