Gotta Serve Somebody - The Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs of Bob Dylan is a tribute album independently produced by Jeffrey Gaskill of Burning Rose Productions, Ltd. and released under license on the SonyColumbia label in 2003. The compilation features traditional and contemporary gospel singers performing songs written by Bob Dylan during his born again period 197981. This is no tribute, however, but a showcase of Dylan as one of the great gospel songwriters - albeit 25 years after the fact. Caesar's version of the title track is a scorcher and would not have been out of place in a church pastored by James Cleveland. The Sounds of Blackness' Solid Rock does indeed rock - it's funky, driving, and wrapped loosely around a minor-key trill and riff pulsing just ahead of the beat. An interesting rewind to the powerful gospel music Bob Dylan wrote in the late 70's. The album's excellent liner notes, written in part by Tom Piazza, link each song to a bible passage, underscoring how Dylan' Serve Somebody. Written by: Bob Dylan. You may be an ambassador to England or France You may like to gamble, you might like to dance You may be the heavyweight champion of the world You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls. But youre gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed Youre gonna have to serve somebody Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord But youre gonna have to serve somebody. You might be a rock n roll addict prancing on the stage You might have drugs at your command, women in a cage You may be a businessman or some high-degree thief They may call you D. Great collection of truly gifted gospel singers, groups, and choirs doing Dylan's best Christian period songs. As noted by others, tho all are good, the Chicago Mass Choir version of pressing On is almost other-worldly - and one of the finest gospel pieces I've ever heard. I'm a huge Rosetta Tharpe and Dorothy Love Coats fan, for reference purposes the Shirley Caesar version of Gotta Serve Somebody has a nice DL Coates vibe to it. Verified Purchase. Bob Dylan went through a 3 album conversion to Christianity. Some of the songs are great: some are pedantic. His singing about 1980 was pretty awful. Album 2003 11 Songs. Various Artists. Rock 2003.
