Album

Nevermind is the second studio album by American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991, by DGC Records. A number of labels courted the band, but Nirvana ultimately signed with Geffen Records imprint DGC Records based upon repeated recommendations from Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and their management company. Produced by Butch Vig, it was the band's first release on the label, as well as the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl. The album cover, which shows a naked baby swimming with a U. Nevermind was never meant to change the world, but you can never predict when the Zeitgeist will hit, and Nirvana's second album turned out to be the place where alternative rock crashed into the mainstream. This wasn't entirely an accident, either, since Nirvana did sign with a major label, and they did release a record with a shiny surface, no matter how humongous the guitars sounded. Twenty years on, the album that changed the course of popular music is reissued in two deluxe versions. The enduring brilliance of the original is at this point beyond dispute, but the value of the demos, alternate mixes, and live cuts included on two new sets is debatable. But Nevermind was and remains an unrepeatable object. It retains the gleeful pummel of the first album while hinting at the bleakness of the third. Yet there's also a concision and clarity that Nirvana hadn't quite mastered on the gnarly-by-necessity Bleach and wouldn't allow themselves on the stark and caustic In Utero. I bought this album on cassette when it first came out and still enjoy listening to it It's a compilation of songs that are odd in their own right and odd in their combination. It just flows nicely from start to finish, from funky to quirky and most everywhere in between. Nevermind is the second studio album by American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24. Nevermind was responsible in part for bringing both alternative rock and grunge music to a mainstream audience, and has been ranked highly on lists of the greatest albums of all time s Nevermind. The 1991 album that gave rise to a rock genre and captured the spirit of a new generation. Text by Hua Hsu. Supported by Tiffany & Co. Mainstream rock seemed to fit within a limited gradient of American machismo, from fun-loving buffoonery to the serious and virtuosic. This isnt to say that there were no other options: college radio had fuelled the rise of U2, Depeche Mode, and . and punk had seeded small, intrepid, alternative scenes in places like Boston, Minnesotas Twin Cities, and Athens, Georgia. But from my perch in suburban California those other options were still a challenge to find
