The Pearl Fishers Duet And Other Great Operatic Treasures CD, Comp. Teldec Classics. To justify its inclusion yet again, but to keep it somewhat inconspicuous, Naxos has assembled 14 operatic duets from its extensive catalog and modestly placed the Flower Duet as the third track of The Pearl Fishers. If listeners expect this disc to be full of similarly affecting pieces, then they are sure to be disappointed. Les pêcheurs de perles The Pearl Fishers is an opera in three acts by the French composer Georges Bizet, to a libretto by Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré. It was premiered on 30 September 1863 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris, and was given 18 performances in its initial run. Set in ancient times on the island of Ceylon Sri Lanka, the opera tells the story of how two men's vow of eternal friendship is threatened by their love for the same woman, whose own dilemma is the conflict between secular love. The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. The Pearl Fishers and other Famous Operatic Duets is a compilation of famous duets released by Naxos. On this 1995 release one gets to hear duets from Bizet, Verdi and Delibes to mention a few. Keith Anderson has written the music notes. The booklet also contains all the lyrics. Truly a delightful recording. Highly recommended. The legendary recording of the Pearl Fishers Duet, with the thrilling voices of. Recorded in 1950, this version of the great Bizet duet is unarguably a. The Pearl Fishers. Photograph: Alastair Muir. If it did not include one of the most popular of all operatic lollipops the tenor-and-baritone duet Au Fond du Temple Saint surely no one would bother too much with The Pearl Fishers. But it does contain that duet, and so companies feel obliged to put the work on stage every so often, regardless of its cringingly awful libretto, cardboard-thin characters and scarcely credible plot. Bizet's tunes are good, but what connects them isn't, and many directors have resorted to introducing extra silent characters, in an attempt to shock the piece into dramatic life
