The Radio One Sessions is an album by early Pink Floyd vocalist and guitarist Syd Barrett. It features the complete Peel Sessions recordings, plus Radio One Sessions is a live album by former Pink Floyd vocalist and guitarist, Syd Barrett. It is the last Barrett album released in his lifetime before his death in 2006. It features the complete Peel Session recordings that Barrett did for Top Gear Presented by Peel on 24 February 1970, plus three unreleased songs recorded for a Bob Harris Sounds of the Seventies show on 16 February 1971. In fact, there isn't much difference between this album - recorded live in the BBC studios in various sessions between 1995 and 1999 - and their studio efforts the Stars are a live band in every sense of the word, so whether they're recording for radio luminary John Peel or entrenched in London's Pathway studio where the album. of the same name was produced, they always manage to deliver quality songs and volatile, visceral performances. John Peel's first stint as DJ was in 1959, for a Dallas radio station's R&B show called Kats Karavan thereafter, the work sheet for every Peel show bore that same legend in the space reserved for the programme title. This four-CD set offers a varied selection of the sorts of oddball, often outré music that characterised his shows, organised in chronological order. It's by no means perfect, but then neither were his shows. In 1997 the Guardian asked John Peel to list his top 20 albums. Though he freely regarded these kinds of lists as terribly self-indulgent - and may well have chosen a completely different 20 if you'd asked him a week later - he was nonetheless happy to oblige. Peel played them in the very early days of BBC Radio 1 even before he had his own show. He can be heard here singing the praises of the group in a slot on the Pete Murray show.
