One of the earliest recordings was by the Guy Lombardo orchestra, with his brother Carmen doing a vocal. This version was recorded on August 27, 1934, and issued by Decca Records as catalog number 104. The song was later performed by over 100 artists. Among them are: Al Bowlly, Bing Crosby for his 1975 album A Southern Memoir, Lee Wiley, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Various Artists. Alabama & Other Stars. Alabama & Other Stars is an eight-track, budget-priced collection that features three songs from Alabama, none of them big hits, plus cuts by Vern Gosdin, Billy Joe Royal, Ronnie Milsap, Johnny Lee and Tommy Overstreet. None of these tracks are hits, nor are these especially good performances - in fact, it's unclear where they even come from - and the audio quality is exceedingly poor, making this nothing more than a ripoff.
