Katie Crutchfield aka Waxahatchee produced the album with Kyle Gilbride and Keith Spencer. After the release of Cerulean Salt 2013, Crutchfield split amicably with her label, Don Giovanni Records. She and Spencer isolated themselves for almost a year in a house in Holbrook, Long Island. Crutchfield recalled, I just got to hide. The name of her solo musical project Waxahatchee comes from a creek not far from her childhood home in Alabama and seems to represent both where she came from and where shes going. Though 2012's breakthrough Cerulean Salt had more people playing on it, Ivy Tripp feels bigger, in part because Katie Crutchfield is growing increasingly confident. She's just 26, but with more than a dozen releases to her name courtesy of projects like P. Eliot, collaborations like Great Thunder, and assorted guest spots here and there, she comes off like the leader of a DIY folk-inflected indie rockpunk scene, a spokesperson for a realm usually against spokespeople.
