The album's title comes from the Sermon on the Mount. When asked why he chose this as his album's title, David Eugene Edwards replied, I wanted to remind myself of the birds. I am often anxious. Consider the Birds is the third studio album by Wovenhand , released in 2004. While still largely David Eugene Edwards ' solo project at the time, this record saw drummer Ordy Garrison playing an expanded role, hinting at the band to come on later albums. For the majority of Consider the Birds, Edwards truly embraces the solo tag by performing every instrument, but on select tracks, such as the tensional dirge that opens the record, Sparrow, Eugene employs a tasteful yet powerful band as a counterweight to his more blatant experimentations. It is a testament to Edwards' vision that over the course of its 40 minutes, Consider the Birds never feels schizophrenic, since the album constantly flirts with an unfocused recklessness.
