Wasp Star Apple Venus Volume 2 is the 14th and most recent studio album by the English rock band XTC, released on Cooking VinylIdea Records on 23 May 2000. It is the follow-up to 1999's Apple Venus Volume 1 and contains rock-based material largely written between 1994 and 1996. Wasp Star reached number 40 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2002, the group released an instrumental version of the album entitled Waspstrumental. XTC dissolved in 2006, leaving Wasp Star their last studio album to date. Wasp Star was my first XTC album. I know people generally dont regard it as the best XTC album, but its my favorite. Oh, really You came in the out door. Tell me a bit about how 1999s Apple Venus Volume One differs from Wasp Star. That came out on your own label via Cooking Vinyl, finally. I really wanted to work with an orchestra and thats an expensive fancy. XTC ended their recording career on a high note with 2000's Wasp Star: Apple Venus Volume 2. It had been a tumultuous 23 years of recording, with ongoing problems with their record company. Also, Andy Partridge had his breakdown in 1982, which ended their touring. Through it all, they released great albums-each one very distinct from the next. All bands must adapt and change as time passes, and XTC was almost unrecognizable with this album. Wasp Star is not a wow album. Now that the negative stuff is out of the way, let me say that I still really like this album. Compared to what many other groups are putting out today, this stuff is pure genius. It is the second volume of the Apple Venus set and reached the UK Top 40 albums chart. At this point, guitarist and singer Andy Partridge and bassist and singer Colin Moulding were the only two band members left. The duo therefore utilised session musicians on every track to fill in the musical elements that they were incapable of performing themselves.
