Tonight is the sixteenth studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released on 24 September 1984 by EMI America Records. The follow-up to his most commercially successful album Let's Dance 1983, it was written and recorded in mid-1984 at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec, Canada following the conclusion of the Serious Moonlight Tour. Much of the album's sound is the same as its predecessor's, due to Bowie's effort to retain the new audience that he had recently acquired. Tonight - David Bowie. Bowies career was on the top. In 1983 he released Lets Dance, with his massive hits Lets Dance, China Girl and Modern Love. He arrived to more and more people as he started to work with produce Nile Rodgers, but he Bowie decided to work with other producers in one of his most dished yet commercially successful albums: Tonight. In this album, you can see how Bowies writing started to enter in this creative decadence that made the next album, Never Let Me Down, even more critically unsuccessful: It was rushed. On the basis of Tonight, it appears that David Bowie didn't have a clear idea of how to follow the platinum success of Let's Dance. Instead of breaking away from the stylized pop of Let's Dance and China Girl, Bowie delivers another record in the same style. Apart from the single Blue Jean, none of the material equals the songs on Let's Dance, but that doesn't stop Tonight from becoming another platinum success. Tonight is ranked 5,712th in the overall chart, 873rd in the 1980s, and 91st in the year 1984. I personally feel that Tonight is unique among David Bowie albums, even with it's glossy 80s production and conventional songwriting. Bowie has always been praised for his genre-hopping, and this album is in fact no exception. Tonight explores a dimension of pop music that was previously undiscovered by Bowie. The stand out track is Loving the Alien. This is a Bowie track that easily ranks among his greatest. Not only does it serve it's purpose as a stand alone pop song, it also acts as a terrific album opener
