Les Percussions de Strasbourg is a contemporary classical music percussion ensemble made up of six percussionists. Founded in 1962, the ensemble is still performing and commissioning music. The current lineup has played together for 15 years. Their discography includes two albums for Limelight Records. They have premiered over 250 works of contemporary classical music, including Iannis Xenakis's Pléïades, Inventions by Miloslav Kabeláč and Karlheinz Stockhausen's Musik im Bauch. One of their members. Album Summary. Miroglio, Francis : Extensions 2, for percussion ensemble. Louvier, Alain : Shima, for percussion. Louvier, Alain : Candrakala, for percussion. Aperghis, Georges : Kryptogramma, for percussion. Founded at the suggestion of Pierre Boulez just over four decades ago, Les Percussions de Strasbourg created an instant sensation, and are largely responsible for building a significant postwar repertoire of ensemble music for and with percussion. Two of their most spectacular recordings were recorded for eventual release in quadrophonic, and now can at last be heard as they were intended - in thrilling surround sound.
