Road Trips Volume 2 Number 4 is a two-CD live album by the American rock band the Grateful Dead. The eighth in their Road Trips series of albums, it was recorded on May 26 and 27, 1993, at the Cal Expo Amphitheatre in Sacramento, California. A third, bonus disc included with some copies of the album was recorded at the same two concerts. The album was released on August 25, 2009. The Grateful Dead archive series Road Trips was conceived to include highlights of a given period in this iconic band's history, and Volume 2 Number 4 presents a streamlined take on two shows from the Cal Expo in 1993. In stark contrast to the cookie cutter amphitheatres the group was finding itself forced to play to accommodate their growing audience at this point in their history, the open-air atmosphere no doubt contributes directly to the overall vigor with which the Grateful Dead plays. If Road Trips Vol. 4 suggests anything, it's that the Grateful Dead wouldn't rest until it simply had no choice. Track Listing. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by Road Trips Volume 2 Number 4. I was very surprised to hear Here Comes Sunshine but they kinda gayed that up with the keyboard antics of Welnick but the rest of the songs on all 3 discs make up for it 3 discs if you got the bonus disc. The Playin' is absolutely fantastic and just may be one of the best late era Playin's I have heard. The bonus discs, always contain the best stuff, and this one on: Vol. 2 No, 4, is another gem. Killer versions of: Gloria Broken Arrow & Fire on the Mountain are found right here, on this great bonus CD.
