Though not a brilliant performance on the level of the 1935 Act I, this is a quite competent and even stirring effort, with a good company of Valkyries for the famous Ride and Traubel as an excellent Brünnhilde. Janssen is a good Wotan but his voice had got worn down considerably since his great Wolfram von Eschenbach in the 1930 Bayreuth Tannhäuser, and Rodzinski's conducting is workmanlike.
