A concept album, its main format is progressive rock and string orchestra, using narration and leitmotifs to carry the story via rhyming melodic lyrics that express the feelings of the various characters. Jeff Wayne The War Of The Worlds Released: UK 1996. Have the Vinyl LP, CD and Tape Recording of this. Just brilliant. Seen the live version, too and bought that original, too. They still bring me out in goosebumps whenever I hear it, whatever version it is. And while it lacks the sophisticated arrangements of, say, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, it does boast an impressively odd cast - this may be the only time that a member of Thin Lizzy worked with Richard Burton, and the presence of Julie Covington and the Moody Blues' Justin Hayward in very attractive singing roles attest to its poprock. In the production of The War Of The Worlds he put together all of the music himself and contributed some vocals to the final track of the original 1978 release. He also wrote several advertising jingles in the 1970s which appeared on television in the United Kingdom, notably the Gordon's Gin commercial, which was systematically covered and re-covered by the Human League. Other well-known themes he wrote include Good Morning Britain read more. There are two artists using this name: 1. Jeff Wayne is a composer known mostly for his musical version of H. Wells' The War Of The Worlds. In the production. In 2012 I had the thrill of working with Gary Barlow on The War of The Worlds - The New Generation with Gary as The Sung Thoughts of The Journalist. Recently, I couldnt have been more pleased when Gary asked me to accompany him on Forever Autumn, for his very popular 'Crooners Sessions along with Guest keyboardist and Level 42 Grandmaster, Mike Lindup. Over the years many have revealed that their favourite way to enjoy the double album was to turn the lights off, crawl under their bed, and listen in total darkness, letting their imagination take them back in time to the. horror of the Martian Invasion of 1898. The album is a rock-opera based on the classic 1898 science fiction novel The War of the Worlds by British author H. The album roughly follows the plot of the novel, which details an alien invasion by grotesque beings from the planet Mars that use massive tripod war-machines armed with a heat-ray that incinerates everything it touches to conquer Earth. An unnamed journalist, played by Burton, acts as a witness to the invasion and its aftermath as he attempts to survive, encountering numerous other survivors along the way.
