Grushecky and his band had been a club fixture in the Northeast for nearly twenty years when they released American Babylon in 1995. The Pittsburgh band had proven themselves to be the consummate bar band with occasional flirtations with national success. American Babylon found them teaming up with Bruce Springsteen, who handles production, plays on several tracks, and wrote two songs for the album. In 1976, Joe Grushecky, a high school special education teacher, started the Brick Alley Band. Grushecky's new band was a typical bar band. They signed to Cleveland International Records in 1977, who rechristened them the Iron City Houserockers. Joe Grushecky born Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a rock musician in the United States known for his work with the Iron City Houserockers in the late 1970s and early 1980s and for his works since the late the 1980s with his act Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers and for his solo career. I had never heard them before but after reading about them in Bruce the new biography about the Boss, I decided I had to take a listen. The fact that Bruce produced and played on the album and wrote a few of the songs, didn't hurt. I haven't heard any of Grushecky's other material but if you're a Bruce fan like me you want to get your hands on anything he is a part of.
