Korn recorded most of their self-titled debut album at Indigo Ranch Studio on a 14,000 budget, finishing some of the vocals at Davis' fathers studio. Inspired by diverse acts ranging between Pantera, Ice Cube, Duran Duran, Cypress Hill, The Cure, Primus and more, thirteen songs were recorded for Korn with twelve appearing on the album and the remaining song Sean Olson finding release on the promotional CD for the bands third single Shoots And Ladders.
