Album

Recorded from Bowie's first live American broadcast, this October 20, 1972 concert is a good choice for those who found themselves left cold by the awkward soul and the absence of Mick Ronson on David Live. Coming on the heels of the release of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie is captured here at the height of his creative powers. Live Santa Monica '72 is a live album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was released on 30 June 2008 in the United Kingdom and 22 July 2008 in the United States. It is the official release of KMET FM's radio broadcast, then bootleg album and later semi-legal release Santa Monica '72, recorded at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium during the Ziggy Stardust Tour. By November 2008 the album had sold 10,000 copies in US. All songs written by David Bowie except where noted. Beginning with a spectacular rap, the song was originally recorded during the Dixie Chicken sessions but not included on the released album. This extended In Santa Monica 1991 - . A little while later, the band was altered somewhat, with the substitution of David Hood on bass and Roger Hawkins on drums, but as this DVD shows very well, Traffic remained quite the hot-shite ensemble nonetheless. Filmed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972, this concert seems to kick off with a somewhat spacy, mildly exploratory version of the title tune of the band's then-current LP, The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys Steve Winwood and Chris Wood get to stretch out nicely on this one, on piano and electric sax, respectively. Long bootlegged, Live Santa Monica 72 captures the glam-rock pioneer during his Ziggy Stardust prime,on his first U. tour, recording what is unequivocally his best concertalbum. With no needless production tricks to separate the music from thelive experience, everything, including the crowd, becomes part of thisintimate show taped at the Santa Monica Civic Center. Bowie is relaxed andchatty - he even introduces Andy Warhol with a goofy impersonation of thepop artist.
