Liz Damon's Orient Express was a 1970s band from Hawaii, featuring lead singer Liz Damon, two female backup singers and a rotating backup band. The name apparently derived from the original backup band being entirely Asian. Their only song to make the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 was 1900 Yesterday, which made it to No. 33 on the US and No. 15 on the Canadian charts in early 1971. Most impressively, it peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey. Indeed, Liz Damon's group of three frontwomen and six male musicians sounds as enamored of Ray Conniff and his sound as Ric Ocasek and the Cars were of the Velvet Underground. The Cashman & West song But for Love is brilliant, more edge than you might find on an album by the Lettermen, while You Make Me Feel Like Someone could have fallen off the first Ronettes album, no joke. Last year I spoke with Liz Damon about a lesser 45rpm single, Woota Feelin Good, that the band recorded in the late 1970s possibly 1979. Liz gave me permission to reissue the two songs on my record label, Aloha Got Soul. I'm happy to announce that the reissue is ready to go Check it out: obscure-fun
