Welcome to free to Murcof The Versailles Sessions Welcome to Versailles, Louis XIV's Demons and more. 6 tracks 49:58. On 2008s THE VERSAILLES SESSIONS, Mexico-bornSpain-based electronica artist Murcof aka Fernando Corona draws inspiration from his European neighbors for a series of tracks created specifically for a French festival at Chateau de Versailles. An exercise in minimalism, the record, which is not considered to be one of Murcofs regular studio albums, employs haunting wordless vocals and spare instrumentation to intriguing effect. In The Versailles Sessions, Murcof creates one of the most dramatic, suspenseful and cinematic soundtracks to date. The imaginary film consists of the images from the annual festival of sound, light and water at the Chateaue de Versailles. The score is composed entirely out of 17th century instruments, such as harpsichord, flute, violin and viola de gamba, and is performed by a troupe of professional baroque musicians. Murcof, aka Barcelona-based Mexican composer Fernando Corona, is probably best known for his blending of classical and electronic music in multimedia pieces such as Oceano but until that is reduced to CD size, this album of music commissioned to accompany a festival makes for a pleasing stopgap. Released: Dec Versailles Sessions Review. Released 2008. Specially recorded 17th century baroque instruments including harpsichord, viola da gamba and flute are the raw materials for Murcof's six compositions. Welcome to Versailles begins with crashes and the scraping of strings. After a succession of flute notes that stretch out over a cavernous space measured out by clanking sounds, drones ratchet up the tension. Murcof's compositions are deliberately paced and stately in their unfolding. The Versailles Sessions, 2008. A Lesson for the Future, Farewell to the Old Ways, 07:54. Death of a Forest, 06:35.
