The Flowers of Romance is the third studio album by English experimental rock band Public Image Ltd, released on 10 April 1981 by record label Virgin. The first studio album recorded following the departure of founding bassist Jah Wobble, The Flowers of Romance found PiL delving further into an experimental sound. Flowers was recorded mainly by singer John Lydon and guitarist Keith Levene, both of whom made heavy use of percussion and various tape and processing effects. Flowers Of Romance - Public Image Ltd. With bassist Jah Wobble long gone from the band, and drummer Martin Atkins splitting his time between PiL and another band, Brian Brain, drums and percussion became the primary pulse of PiLs music, replacing Wobbles trademark reggae-influenced bass of the first two albums. This professionalism was a big fuck-off to punks chaos that had camouflaged how lead singer John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, the former lead singer of the Sex Pistols was being ripped off by the Pistols manager, Malcolm McLaren, financially and emotionally.
