The Greatest Hits, So Far is a greatest hits album by English post-punk band Public Image Ltd, released in 1990 by record label Virgin. Its original lineup was John Lydon vocals formerly of the Sex Pistols, Keith Levene guitar and Jah Wobble bass, although by 1983, the band's lineup would become a fluctuating one, revolving around Lydon. PiL are often cited as one of the most challenging and innovative bands of the post-punk period John Lydon is quoted as saying he wanted to form an anti-rock band. They were influenced by a wide range of artists, especially esoteric artists like Can, Captain Beefheart, Tim B read more. Public Image is the residual fury of the Sex Pistols' breakup rendered with spiky guitars and Lydon's patented snarl. Careering and Memories are skeletal art rock based on the atmospherics of dub music and perverse dance grooves. I have come late to John Lydon et al through PIL's most recent and superior album This is Pil the title 'Greatest Hits, So Far'. PIL get better as time goes on and so does this album, so that by the time they get to track 5 things start to warm up.
