Album

It is hard to believe that this is the first entry in the extensive Sir Douglas Quintet discography, as it seems like the kind of experimental venture an artist might throw out after a handful of successful albums have already been released. The electic nature of bandleader Doug Sahm is undisputed, but this has got to be his album with the most experimental jazz leanings, again not something one would expect. Mendocino is the second album by country rock group The Sir Douglas Quintet, released in April 1969 on Smash Records. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during a fifteen-week stay in early 1969. The album peaked at No. 81 on the Billboard 200 charts. Neon Records re-released the album in 2001 and 2008. Doug Sahm Vocals, guitar, pedal steel guitar, fiddle. Frank Morin Vocals, horns. My only complaint is that the album was wayyy too short-in their live performances they really stretched out. Most people have no idea this band ever lived. Read more. Honkey Blues 1968. Sir Douglas Quintet 2 Honkey Blues by Sir Douglas Quintet. Release date. The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band, formed in San Antonio in 1964. With their first hits, they were acclaimed in their home state. When their career was established subsequent to working with Texas record producer Huey Meaux, the band relocated to the West Coast. Their move coincided with the burgeoning San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s to early 1970s. Overall, the quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions. Sir Douglas Quintet - The Beginning Of The End.
