Use Once and Destroy is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Superjoint Ritual. The guitar and bass work was done by Phil Anselmo and Eyehategod's Jimmy Bower. Drumming was performed by Joe Fazzio. For touring bass duties, Superjoint Ritual recruited Hank Williams III. Anselmo did not want to play bass live because he wanted to focus mainly on singing. Use Once and Destroy is a slightly different approach to music than the work of Pantera, one of Anselmo's other bands. Use Once and Destroy is the first release from the heavy metal band Superjoint Ritual. It was recorded in lead singer Phil Anselmo's barn turned recording studio in Louisiana. Use Once and Destroy is an album that's hard to approach for me. I discovered this project by Phil well after its demise and pretty much liked it the moment I heard it. Maybe it's because I've taken a liking to Phil and what he's done for the metal world. Superjoint Ritual was basically an expression of Anselmo's fascination with hardcore and sludge metal, two genres that are often associated in some way. I am particularly fond of the sludge genre, but for some reason, I have not grown fond of this band. Use Once and Destroy. Superjoint Ritual. Released May 21, 2002. Use Once and Destroy Tracklist. Oblivious Maximus Lyrics. Use Once and Destroy Q&A. Producers Superjoint Ritual & Dave Fortman. Superjoint Ritual has a heightened sense of brutality that not even Pantera has quite yet reached, pummeling one's ears with relentless blasts of pure molten metal menace. The album relies on rapid-fire bursts of lightning-quick metal for the most part, as many of the album's 18 tracks are under three minutes in length, yet this works fine, allowing Anselmo to mutilate one's skin with his venomous screams. This album can more or less be called the penultimate nail in the coffin of Phil Anselmo's relationship with the Abbott Brothers of Pantera - second only of course to Dimebag's tragic murder - but this signalled the end of Pantera creatively as we knew it and confirmed the rumours that Anselmo wanted to do his own thing. Superjoint Ritual also notably features the talents of Nola legend Jimmy Bower who's pretty much involved in everything Anselmo is and its his band EyeHateGod which perhaps this band borrows more from than any of the other members
