Art is an album by trumpeter Art Farmer, featuring performances recorded in 1960 and originally released on the Argo label. 18 Farmer stated in 1995 that the album, which consists mainly of ballads, was his favorite. Farmer was co-founder and co-leader of the Jazztet, which had recorded two albums for Argo, including Big City Sounds on September 16, 19, and 20, 1960. 6, 18 Two of the members of that sextet bassist Tommy Williams, and drummer Albert Heath were retained by Farmer for his recording. Flugelhornist Art Farmer is in top form on this quartet set with pianist Fred Hersch, bassist Bob Bodley and drummer Billy Hart. Farmer had, if anything, grown through the years and although he had lived in Europe for 13 years at the time of this album, he was still getting better. Farmer is heard in peak form on such numbers as Charlie Parker's Red Cross, She's Funny That Way, Change Partners and Love Walked In. A fine example of his artistry. Track Listing.
