Dillon was a stonemason from the small community of Boundbrook, located on the outskirts of the northeast coastal town of Port Antonio, where he was raised by his grandparents in a. The popularity of this track and earlier hit singles led to a debut album, Engine 54, issued by Doctor Bird in the UK. Then, the most solid and lasting working relationship was forged with producer Carl Johnson, yielding a series of hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their debut album, far more rocksteady than ska, recorded with Tommy McCook and the Supersonics. It's excellent, consistent stuff from the prime of rock steady, with seductively cooing harmonies and falsettos few if any other acts brought '60s soul and Jamaican rhythms together with such entrancing results. The Ethiopians were an absolutely idiomatic vocal duo of the most engrained variety. These are ancient, unmannered voices, harmonising rawly over the gently rocking rhythms of the era quite beautiful, even when straining to connect reggae to its R&B roots.
