Sex is the debut album of improvised music trio, The Necks, originally released on the Spiral Scratch label and later rereleased on Fish of Milk and Private Music in the US. The album features a single track of just under an hour in length performed by Chris Abrahams, Lloyd Swanton and Tony Buck improvising over a two-bar motif. On this album the band overdubbed the instrumentation of piano, bass and drums in a dual take creating a hypnotic repetitive piece. Sex by The Necks, released 11 July 1989 1. Sex Sex was not the bands first recording, but it was their first release. Recorded in 1988, it established the long form approach that the band has become known for, and has continued to be a strong seller in the Necks catalog. Fifty-six minutes and six seconds of strangebeautiful acoustic ambience plays out as Swantons pulsing bass motif combines with Bucks gliding cymbal work and Abrahams sparsely melodic piano.
