Various Artists. Greatest Folksingers of the '60s. Not only was Maynard Solomon's Vanguard Records one of the major folk labels of the '60s having the prescience to pick up Joan Baez early on, and then recording the cream of the singersongwriters thereafter, it also had the rights to record and release material from the Newport Folk Festival, giving it access to several artists who were. not signed to the label. The Greatest Songs of the Sixties is Barry Manilow's sequel album for The Greatest Songs of the Fifties. The album was another major hit for Manilow in the United States, selling nearly 50 more than his previous album in its opening week. As with its predecessor, this album was produced by Clive Davis, along with Manilow and David Benson. The classics performed in this album includes Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Elvis Presley's 1 hit Can't Help Falling in Love. 0 out of 5 stars Greatest Folksingers of the Sixties. I have both, it turns out, and having played the album so many times since the mid 1970s, I jumped at the opportunity to own the CD. Not all music made it to CD, so sales were obviously good enough to bother transferring this album. The vinyl was a two-record affair, and divided into a studio recordings from Vanguard Records' back catalogue, and b live performances from the many Newport Folk Festivals that Vanguard had the recording rights to the loose grammar here is a choice.
