Martinez skillfully layers them on top of one another using Ableton technology to have as many as eight tracks going at one time. And much like Hawtin's DE9 mixes, the process is sometimes more impressive than the result at points, with some elements just not meshing well with one another. But in a genre where the mantra less is more is repeated somewhat ironically over and over again like a broken record, sometimes maximizing minimalism leaves much to be desired. Restructured Layers. Restuctured Layers is composed of bits of Martinezs own tracks for the label about half of the stuff here, two pre-Poker Flat Trentemollers from 2004 the still visceral Beta Boy and The Forest, and some obscure producers that might or might not be part of Denmarks tech house mafia Ibn Al-Khimyia or Nima Gorji. Here, unfortunately, the very concept of Restructured Layers ends up being more successful and engrossing than the actual upshot, which is something that even the most modernistic art forms never fall away from anyway.
