Album
1 is a compilation album by the English rock band the Beatles, originally released on 13 November 2000. The album features virtually every number-one single the band achieved in the United Kingdom and United States from 1962 to 1970. Issued on the 30th anniversary of the band's break-up, it was their first compilation available on only one CD. 1 was a commercial success and topped the charts worldwide. It has sold over 31 million copies. The Beatles was the last Beatles album to be mixed separately for stereo and mono. All but one track exist in official mono mixes the exception is Revolution 9, which was a direct reduction of the stereo master. The Beatles had not been particularly interested in stereo until this album, but after receiving mail from fans stating they bought both stereo. In the United States, mono records were already being phased out the US release of The Beatles was the first Beatles LP to. The Beatles experienced huge popularity on the British record charts in early 1963, but record companies in the United States did not immediately follow up with releases of their own, and the Beatles' commercial success in the US continued to be hampered by other obstacles, including issues with royalties and public derision toward the Beatle haircut. It was nearly a year before the Beatles became widely popular in America. CBS Evening News aired a five-minute news story about Beatlemania in the UK. Their first concert in front of a paying audience was at the Washington Coliseum in Washington DC on the 11th February, in front of 8,000 fans. Fortunately this concert was filmed and shown in cinemas the following month. The film ended rather abruptly during their closing number as the cameraman ran out of film . The Beatles early releases were on the Vee-Jay, Swan and Tollie labels, before EMIs US counterpart, Capitol, sat up and took notice. I was 11 in 1975 when I was introduced to their music. On 9 February 1964 the Fab Four made their first live US television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. At 8 P. M, 73 million Americans saw John Paul, George and Ringo play.
